In August 2013, the Carlsen Verlag started Impress and Instant Books, two new imprints exclusively for e-books. The publisher is relying on a new marketing strategy for digital books: the direct communication between author and reader. A personal fan-lounge is made available to each author in order to build and maintain his or her fan base.
The authors present themselves with image, text, video and a personal blog. The unique aspect is the direct involvement of the fans: through various fan missions they are encouraged to participate and each of their entries in rewarded with exclusive goodies related to the author and book.
As Digital Lead Agency for the publisher, SIRUP designs the individual fan lounges as single pages. The vertically aligned areas are clearly distinguished by bold blocks of color while a fixed navigation leads users at any time directly to specific content. The appealing and user-friendly design is mirrored in the Drupal backend. A tidy and clearly structured user interface offers authors comfortable management of their own fan lounge.
