Your responsibilities
- Provisioning, setting up, and individually configuring Linux servers (initial installation, basic configuration) based on LAMP stacks (Linux, Apache/Nginx, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP) as well as containerized Docker environments
- Designing, implementing, and continuously improving security and firewall configurations (e.g. iptables/nftables, Fail2ban, hardening according to best practices)
- Setting up, automating, and monitoring backup strategies, including regular restore and disaster-recovery testing
- Building and operating monitoring and alerting systems (e.g. Prometheus/Grafana) for proactive monitoring of availability and performance
- Performing regular system, security, and software updates, plus ongoing server management, performance optimization, and troubleshooting (incident and error management)
- Managing domains and DNS entries, as well as issuing, integrating, and renewing SSL/TLS certificates including correct server configuration
- Installing, configuring, and operating search and indexing services (Apache Solr, Elasticsearch) as well as message broker systems such as RabbitMQ, including index/queue management and performance tuning
- Supporting and optimizing the hosting infrastructure for clients' websites, online shops, and web applications
- Automating recurring tasks through scripting (e.g. Bash, Python) and, where applicable, configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible), as well as documenting systems, configurations, and processes
What you bring
- Completed IT training (e.g. as a specialist in system integration), a degree in computer science, or a comparable qualification and relevant professional experience
- Solid knowledge of administering Linux servers in production environments, including LAMP stacks, Docker, container orchestration, firewall/security hardening, backup and monitoring concepts
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus/Grafana or Nagios
- Confident handling of domain/DNS management and SSL/TLS certificates
- Good scripting skills, e.g. in Bash or Python, for automation
- Independent, structured, and solution-oriented way of working
- Willingness to continuously learn new technologies
- Team spirit and good communication with developers, project managers, and clients
- Good written and spoken German skills (English skills are a plus as well)
Nice to have
- Knowledge of bot mitigation and attack protection, e.g. Cloudflare or CrowdSec
- Knowledge of configuration management and automation (e.g. Ansible)
- Experience with search and indexing services such as Apache Solr or Elasticsearch
- Experience with message broker systems such as RabbitMQ
- Familiarity with common CMS/shop systems such as TYPO3, Drupal, or Magento
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control with Git
- Understanding of data protection and compliance requirements (GDPR)
